Benefits
Anise seed (Pimpinella anisum) is a herb with a sweet, liquorice-like flavour that has been utilised in traditional medicine for centuries. It contains anethole, a major bioactive compound responsible for its characteristic aroma and flavour, and which is believed to exhibit mild phytoestrogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic properties. Preliminary research and long-standing traditional use suggest that anise seed may help ease menstrual discomforts - such as bloating, cramps, and mood fluctuations - and support digestive health by relieving gas, indigestion, and intestinal spasms.
