Benefits

An ancient aromatic herb used for centuries for its medicinal properties to support digestive, carminative, menstrual, antispasmodic, sedative, analgesic, tonic, and diuretic issues. Lemon balm has shown to be beneficial in studies to support PMS, menstrual pain, digestion, mood, and anxiety. Research published in Phytotherapy Research indicates that lemon balm can reduce symptoms of mild anxiety by up to 36%, while also improving mood and cognitive function. Additionally, its antispasmodic properties have proven effective in alleviating menstrual cramps and bloating, making it a natural remedy for discomfort during the cycle. Beyond hormonal support, lemon balm also aids in digestion by soothing the gastrointestinal tract, helping to reduce bloating and digestive discomfort commonly associated with PMS.

Evidence

  • A double-blind randomised, placebo-controlled trial was performed on 100 high school girls and found that after 3 month Lemon balm decreased PMS intensity scores by 67.3%
  • In a double blinded placebo controlled trial 87% of participants in the treated group reported improved sleep quality, compared to 30% in the placebo group.
